Colombia: Use of GIS Tools for Land Expansion in Colombia

Local indigenous youngsters have mapped the boundaries and sacred sites of their village, Gunmaku in the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta, northern Colombia, and the indigenous authorities are happy with the result. The Dutch Kadaster is supporting the sustainable development of rural communities in Colombia by bringing smart GIS tools closer to remote communities to facilitate land administration. This project in Gunmaku shows how existing technology can empower indigenous communities to protect their lands.
