Myanmar: Banking on the Farm Vote

The Myanmar Farmer Development Party is proposing to set up a bank that will provide financial support to farmers to improve their productivity -- and garner their vote. 

MFDP Chairman Kyaw Swar Soe, told the Nikkei Asian Review on Tuesday that he has been working on the project with Japanese business support. The party will make a commitment to founding the bank as a way of winning seats in parliament at the general elections later in the year.
