A group of 29 farmers whose land at the foot of Shwe Thar Lyaung Mountain in Mandalay Region was confiscated by the government in 2008 are demanding the right to cultivate there once again. About 50 acres located in Kyaukse township were designated as protected public land by the Ministry of Forestry, and the farmers say they received neither compensation nor substitute land.
