Myanmar: NLD under Pressure to Scrap Hydropower Projects

Huge hydropower projects along the Thanlwin River must be halted, civil society organisations said yesterday, in an appeal to the incoming National League for Democracy government launched from the banks of Southeast Asia’s longest free-flowing river. Karen Rivers Watch, which has been active in campaigning against the series of more than a dozen dams planned along the river in China and Myanmar, said the projects were in breach of people’s rights and desires.
