Nepal’s Micro-Hydropower Projects Have Surprising Effect on Peace Process

Development, and human development in particular, is frequently considered a ground condition for peace by the development community. It follows that, because they provide rural communities with clean energy and contribute to human development, micro-hydropower systems should help alleviate tensions in a place like Nepal, where rural poverty is widespread. Surprisingly, however, it appears that these projects have contributed little to the peace process.
