Although climate change does not directly cause conflict, it makes violence more likely to occur and to be more intense. The effects of climate change act as ‘threat multipliers’ that intensify already-existing conflict patterns. The link between climate change and conflict is by now well-established, but most explorations of this connection are found in academic studies that are likely to come off as dull to the general public.
