The conference explores links between conflict, environmental degradation, and problems associated with public health provision in times of crisis. Emerging zoonotic and other infectious diseases have been linked to deforestation and other land use changes as well as water quality and other environmental factors. Armed conflict leaves a lasting impact on the public infrastructure and health service sector of post-conflict communities. How can policymakers and others cope with this triple threat to human security? What lessons can we learn from past experience?

As part of the conference, we will be holding a Student Workshop, allowing young scholars to showcase their work and contribute to the broader questions being asked at the conference. Submissions may consider the intersections between armed conflict/war, environmental degradation (including natural resource management) and global health issues, or contribute to the understanding of one or more of the three major sub-topics. Submissions from all related disciplines are welcome. Presenters will also have an opportunity to publish their pieces along with other experts in a special collection of papers related to the conference. Those individuals and groups engaged in related topics and working with or representing NGOs are also welcome to apply.

Applicants are asked to submit a 50-word abstract by no later than February 13th 2016. Applicants will be notified by email if they have been selected for participation. Participants are expected to cover the costs of travel and accommodations, as funding support will not be available. All participants will be able to enjoy two free lunches, one free conference cocktail, and free refreshment breaks at the conference; and the public components of the conference (including keynote speakers and leadership roundtables) will be free as well.

Deadline for Proposal Submission: February 13th 2016. Participants will be expected to arrive at the conference with rough drafts of their papers, in the 8,000-10,000 word range, and be prepared for short oral presentations and discussion.
