On Tuesday, February 9th, 2021 from 9am-10am and 4pm-5pm CET the ICRC and IFRC will be co-hosting an open consultation with the Humanitarian Sector.

The humanitarian consequences of the climate and environment crisis are dramatic, and the most vulnerable people bear the brunt of their effects. Without drastic, immediate and global reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and ambitious measures to preserve the fragile ecosystems of our planet, the crisis will continue to have large-scale and long-lasting humanitarian consequences.

At the 33rd International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, in December 2019, the IFRC and the ICRC adopted a pledge on “Strengthening the resilience of communities to climate change and environmental degradation through climate-smart humanitarian action.”

In the pledge, the ICRF and IFRC are committed to promoting a transformational change across the humanitarian sector by leading a consultative process to develop a new, simple, accessible, and aspirational Climate and Environment Charter that will be made available to the wider humanitarian sector for adoption in the spirit of the 1994 Code of Conduct.

The ICRC and IFRC would now like to seek your views on the first draft of the Charter. They are hoping to hear from a broad cross-section of the humanitarian sector on the Charter’s content, structure, and ambitions.

As mentioned above,

Date: Thursday, February 9th, 2021

Time: 9am-10am and 4pm-5pm CET
