Implemented by a consortium of three French NGOs, the Central Highlands Program (CHP) focuses on increasing the living standards and quality of life of rural populations in the mountains by promoting a balanced rural development and the preservation of natural resources.

The program is implemented in Central Afghanistan, in the provinces of Bamyan and Maydan Wardak. The members of the consortium are: GERES (Groupe Energies Renouvelables, Environnement et Solidarités) as lead agency, with SI (Solidarités International) and MADERA (Mission d’Aide au Développement des Economies Rurales en Afghanistan) as partners. The Program is implemented under funding of and in collaboration with AFD (Agence Francaise de Développement), Abbé Pierre Foundation and Lord Michelham of Hellingly Foundation.
