Located at the heart of the world’s center for marine biodiversity, Coral Triangle Region, Timor-Leste is a small island nation endowed with a variety of tropical ecosystems and high levels of biodiversity. Yet, after nearly three decades of conflict the country finally achieved independence in 2002. Exposure to prolonged violence has fundamentally reshaped the lives of the Timorese and the way in which they interact with their surrounding environment.
