The ISSS-ISAC Conference is an annual conference which offers discussions on a wide range of security issues, such as peacebuilding and peacekeeping, civil-military relations, security institutions etc. A panel of highlight will be “Are We Waiting for Godot? The Future of Methods in Environmental Conflict and Peacebuilding” on Saturday, October 14^th from 2:00 PM - 3:45 PM. The panel will feature Randall Amster (Georgetown University), Carl Bruch (Environmental Law Institute), and James R. Lee (American University). The panel will discuss the future of research in the environmental conflict and peacebuilding fields. The research on these fields is spread across many disciplines, thus there are differing approaches to collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data. Analysts from each discipline will have different interpretations of the reliability in research findings. Due to the variety of approaches and types of data found in the environmental conflict and peacebuilding field, it is difficult to have consensus in research. This impedes the ability to translate research into actionable policies meant to address real world problems. The panel hopes this roundtable will spur further collaboration around this important issue.
