Join the faculty of Columbia University for a discussion on recent research and insights on pressures from El Niño and techniques to cope with new social and economic stresses. Professor Josh Fisher will discuss his recent research in the highlands of Papua New Guinea and address whether shifting rain patterns are a potential game-changer in the relationships between local villagers and mining operations. Beth Fisher-Yoshida will discuss her recent work in Medellin, Colombia and share her insights on how different forms of communication skills can help strengthen community resilience to changing informal economies and environmental impacts. After the discussion, there will be a chance to ask the speakers and Columbia staff about the educational opportunities offered by the Environment, Peace, and Security certificate program.
