The Emerging Green Conference 2015, which takes place Sept. 22 to Sept. 24 in Portland, will also offer insights into safer chemicals in both products and processes.

Representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Green Electronics Council will appear at the event. The conflict minerals program will feature such speakers as Bill Weihl, Facebook's director of sustainability. Among other definitions, conflict minerals are variously described as items in financing conflict with the Democratic Republic of the Congo
