The speaker will outline critical water security issues facing countries in the Middle East, including the impact of a drying Euphrates on food production and livelihoods, as well as the rising use of oil and gas in desalination in the Gulf states. Considering the efforts of several countries to incentivize conservation and examining the deeply politicized issue of price reforms, she will reflect on the prospects for turning around unsustainable models of water consumption.
