Key industry experts such as Aidan Turnbull Ph.D, prinicipal/partner at EVIRON UK Ltd and Fern Abrams, director of government relations and environmental policy for the IPC, will present on the current European Union legislation in conflict minerals, how to navigate conflict minerals reporting and how to respond to customer enquiries. The workshop will also look at the latest US Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) activities.
There will be an opportunity to speak to members of the Alpha EU team during the workshop. Alpha is committed to ensuring that minerals from conflict mines do not enter its supply chain and has collaborated closely with several industry groups to develop and publish its own Corporate Policy. The policy is based on the Organisation for the Cooperation and Development (OCED), Five Step Framework for Risk Based Due Diligence in the Minerals Supply Chain.
Conflict Minerals is an extremely important issue for the electronics assembly industry. There is a risk that tin mined in conflict areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) may become part of the electronics supply chain, and, furthermore that profits from tin mining in conflict areas may be encouraging unfair labour practices or other human rights violations in the DRC.
