Centre for Peace and security (CPS) focuses on conflict mediations, security sector reforms policy research, advocacy and public interest, peace and security education and litigation and capacity building for conflict management and resolution. The goal is to enhance communities’ participation in peace and conflict resolution and natural resource governance processes. CPS seeks to influence the enactment and enforcement of policies and laws and the establishment of institutions for conflict management to secure access to resource-dependent communities and their institutions for sustainable peace and of resource-based conflicts.
Currently, it has a network of 2 country chapters in the COMESA/ Great lakes Regions, Uganda chapter covering Uganda, Kenya, south Sudan DRC and Zambia chapter covering Tanzania, Zambia and Angola. CPS commits to providing life changing intercultural experienced for youth and professionals working in diverse contexts of conflict, youth and development. It has developed effective models for youth programmes, which address wide-ranging issues and build meaningful, supportive relationships among young people who acre about transforming and resolving conflict and thus improve the world around them.
The Theme: of the conference is “My Non-violent Action as a youth, to manage conflicts” Conflict Resolution by Youth –Uganda, United Religions Initiative (URI)- Great Lakes, Operation Safe Sudan (OSIL), Fire Women (Eastern DRC Province) and Young Women Christian Association Council of Zambia (YWCA Zambia) are organising a one week-long regional youth peace building camp which will bring together youth from different walks of life and from different regional and backgrounds and mostly the communities in to Lusaka province, in Zambia (SADC). The youth delegates dialogue with each other on issues of common concern build supportive peer and mentor relationships and begin and /or enhance a regional network of youth peace builders. The delegates commit to participate in follow-up activities when they return to their respective regions.
