The UN Fourth World Conference on Women, hosted in Beijing in 1995, electrified a generation of activists, catalyzed the creation of new women’s rights organizations, and transformed global policy. A watershed moment in the history of global women’s rights, then-First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton captured the movement’s call to action in a historic speech, insisting that “human rights are women’s rights and women’s rights are human rights, once and for all.” Today, the Beijing Platform remains a progressive blueprint and power source of inspiration for advancing women’s rights around the world.
