The socio-economic impacts of COVID-19, including the global economic downturn, restrictions to travel and movement, combined with the recent TC Harold all have a significant and ongoing impact for the people of the Pacific, and often a disproportionate impact for women and girls. In this seminar, Sandra Bernklau will discuss how UN Women has been working with key partners in the Pacific to support and respond to the particular needs of women and girls. This includes working with front line anti-violence services providers and crisis centres to ensure they can continue to operate under lockdowns, and also with market vendors and market management who are the cornerstone of food security and livelihoods in the Pacific. Many of the lessons learned can help with future responses to disasters, and with strategies for reaching remote communities.
