Virtual Consultation to Gauge Interest in a Private Sector Interest Group

May 12, 2020 | Environmental Peacebuilding Association
online

The Environmental Peacebuilding Association (EnPAx) is considering the creation of an Interest Group to engage members working on the link between environmental affairs, peacebuilding, and the private sector. This group aims to provide a platform for sharing knowledge, experiences, and expertise for both researchers and practitioners, in order to facilitate the exchange between members with similar research interests, as well as the identification of collaboration opportunities.

The private sector has increasingly been pressured by internal and external actors to become a leader of sustainable development, operating under responsible management practices that not only lead to economic profit, but also to social justice, fair treatment, and environmental sustainability. However, the industrial and technological advances of the global economy have allowed for the exploration and development of economic activities in remote, and often ecologically vulnerable and socially marginalized areas. The increasing presence of private companies in such settings, often characterized by weak institutional arrangements, lack of transparency, and power asymmetries between actors, has resulted in the emergence and intensification of socio-environmental conflicts caused by both the scarcity and abundance of natural resources, plus the processes that produce them.

Please join us for a virtual meeting to discuss the possibility of creating a Private Sector Interest Group and potential activities of the group. You may register for Virtual Consultation to Gauge Interest in a Private Sector Interest Group on May 12, 2020, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM EDT at:
