The increase, impact and scale of the movement of people and other species resulting from extreme weather, environmental change, violent conflict, and slow onset disasters pose threats to natural and human systems, with enormous impacts on conservation efforts. This session explores an integrated approach to addressing migration and its challenges.

Description

This session will launch a new publication by the IUCN CEESP Theme on Environment and Peace Task Force on Environmental Change, Migration, and Conflict highlighting the most up-to-date knowledge at this intersection of issues and an analysis of the dominant migration narratives—where they come from and the policies they result in. The publication includes case studies of nature-based solutions, and recommendations focused on planning, mitigation, management, and adaptation. Contributing authors, who will share the key takeaways and recommendations from the publication. A photographic and video exhibit will highlight environmental change and migration to inspire evidence-based and productive narratives from case studies. The session will be complemented by a parallel digital campaign that amplifies the key messages for the conservation, migration, humanitarian, and development communities that can take up the Task Force’s recommendations.
