Join the Alliance for Peacebuilding on Thursday, March 21st, from 9:00am to 10:45am at the Elliott School of International Affairs, 1957 E St NW, Washington, DC for a discussion on "Diversity and Gender Matters: Doing More to Empower Women in the Peacebuilding Field."

Increasing diversity and women’s empowerment are critical for a country’s development and building sustainable peace. In the last two decades, we have seen heightened global advocacy, policy, and programming efforts to empower women in international development and peacebuilding programs. But have we done enough, and have we learned from the evidence? This panel of peacebuilding development experts will focus on how to elevate women's voices and leadership in the peacebuilding field and learn from the evidence of what works. Additionally, we will discuss how to better support women’s movements across the world as we fight to ensure human rights are not rolled back and all voices are heard.

The program will also include a screening of a just-released short film entitled Women, Peace & Power, chronicling the remarkable stories of women in Afghanistan, Liberia, and Northern Ireland who challenge the convention that only men who wield power are equipped to build peace. The short film can be used as a training tool for diplomats, policymakers, peacebuilders, and students of international affairs.
