Launch Meeting of the Environmental Peacebuilding Association's Interest Group on Water

Nov 10, 2018 | Environmental Peacebuilding Association
Geneva, Switzerland

The Environmental Peacebuilding Association will hold the kick-off meeting for its Interest Group on Water titled "Protecting Water Before, During and After Armed Conflict". The Environmental Peacebuilding Association provides a multidisciplinary forum to address issues related to environment, conflict and peace. The kick-off meeting will aim at discussing current topics of research and future of activities of the Interest Group and the Environmental Peacebuilding Association.

This launch meeting follows on the High-Level Conference on “Water Diplomacy: Building Bridges for Lasting Peace” that will take place on November 9, 2018, during the Geneva Peace Week.

The Interest Group on Water seeks to enhance the multidisciplinary knowledge, research, and practice on the use of water as an incentive for peace. Members will discuss and examine the different scales of cooperation on shared water resources ranging from the global and regional to the basin and local levels. The strengths and weaknesses of different models of water management and protection will be considered with a view toward preventing and resolving water disputes, and to helping countries manage water to recover after conflict.
