Featuring presentations by Utchang Kang and Mahawa Komala
Utchang Kang has been working at the UNCCD Secretariat since 2015. He is currently working at the Global Mechanism and his key responsibility includes the Peace Forest Initiative focusing on the nexus between land, peace and security, and the Business for Land initiative promoting private sector engagement in land restoration. Previously he took the lead on the sand and dust storms portfolio of the UNCCD secretariat, advancing global policy on sand and dust storms (SDS) including the publication of the SDS Compendium in 2022. Prior to joining the secretariat, he served at the Korea Forest Service during 2002-2015, working on international cooperation, policy and a number of science projects related to biodiversity conservation and natural resource management.
Mahawa Komala is the Head of Program for the Environmental Department at Everyday Gandhis in Voinjama, Liberia. Her project concentrates on raising awareness and educating farmers about sustainable use and management of community forests through climate-smart agricultural practices and reforestation in degraded forest communities.
