Gender-based violence (GBV) is a significant threat to communities, businesses, employees, and the environments in which they operate, costings the global economy an estimated US $1.5 trillion each year. How does that impact investments? Across its many manifestations, GBV is a human rights violation and a barrier to civic, social, political, legal, and economic participation; GBV hurts communities and economies and, therefore, businesses. KPMG reports that some of the negative business financial implications of GBV include reduced productivity, reduced revenue, increased business expenses, reduced human capital, and market distortions. GBV-aware Investing is understanding the positive and negative impact that different investments have on gender-based violence. This approach is important since investments may also actually increase incidences of GBV, if investors are not cognizant of it during the portfolio construction process.

With support from USAID, the MicroInsurance Centre at Milliman, and Making Cents International, the newly developed GBV-Aware Investing Tool will help institutional investors and other financial institutions gain a better understanding of GBV within certain industries and countries to inform their investment decisions. They, then, can incorporate this tool into their decision-making and portfolio construction processes.

Join us on July 25 9:00 AM ET when our expert panel of speakers will share the economic implications of GBV, introduce the GBV-Aware Investing Tool, and share practical examples of the tool’s applications.
