Despite being one of the most sensitive hotspots to global climate change, different Himalayan states in India are witnessing accelerated ‘development’—new industries, infrastructural projects, urbanisation, and resource extraction. Focussing on these ongoing transformations, the panel will discuss how aspirations for development are reconciled with changes in the environment and how this uneasy relationship manifests itself in the narratives and experiences of contemporary Himalayan lives and livelihoods.
