New report - Shifting Power: Transitioning to Renewable Energy in United Nations Peace Operations
We are pleased to share the Powering Peace initiative’s latest report, Shifting Power: Transitioning to Renewable Energy in United Nations Peace Operations. Powering Peace, a partnership between Stimson and Energy Peace Partners, envisions a broad policy shift within the UN and its member states to adopt renewable energy in peace operations for both short-term and long-term benefits.
The report’s analysis and recommendations aim to help the UN embrace more efficient, effective and cost-saving technologies with a shift to greater use of renewable energy in line with the UN’s goals for peace operations, climate action, and sustainable development. Through an examination of the UN’s vision, policy, and action in the field, this report finds that certain areas need change and that targeted, manageable measures will go a long way in meeting mission goals and UN climate targets. With hundreds of millions of people around the world affected by climate change, conflict, and energy poverty, the work of Powering Peace and our partners is more important than ever, and we hope this report is a step towards concrete action in the field.
