According to the United Nations, approximately 35% of women around the world have experienced physical or sexual violence. Furthermore, gender-based violence (GBV) is known to increase in conflict or humanitarian settings, as well as in the aftermath of displacements and natural disasters. The COVID-19 pandemic is further exacerbating this issue, as lockdowns place many women in vulnerable positions and isolate them from vital resources and support. As such, a deliberate conversation about the realities of GBV and what can be done to protect women and girls around the globe is crucial to addressing the current moment.

Please join the Wilson Center’s Maternal Health Initiative, in partnership with FP2020, CARE, the International Rescue Committee, the Women’s Refugee Commission, and Save the Children for this important discussion on GBV in humanitarian settings in memory of our friend and colleague, Jennifer Schlecht.
