Climate Change & Environmental Security in the Mediterranean Sea

Climate change is increasingly becoming a national security problem for the international community and for the countries of the Mediterranean Sea in particular. Warming temperatures, longer droughts, wildfires and potential for rising sea levels are linked to increased conflicts in the Middle East, more immigration and refugees in North Africa trying to reach haven in Europe through the sea, and a threat to coastal cities all around the Mediterranean. In this panel we gathered experts from the region to discuss the role of intergovernmental bodies, NGOs and multilateral organizations in mitigating and adapting to the growing environmental danger to human security in the Mediterranean Sea.
