Please join us for this Path to Ottawa Event on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 from 1pm to 3pm CET.

Event Description:

In this two-hour roundtable Dorthea Wabiser from Indonesia, Edward Intang Abelardo from the Philippines and Alex Villca from Bolivia will present the backgrounds, conflicts and strategies of the indigenous communities facing intense pressure on their land. Each speaker will introduce the historical and political context shaping the community’s relationship to land, looking at how mining interests, large-scale agriculture, and logging operations have disrupted ecosystems, livelihoods, and cultural continuity.

After introducing the audience to these three interconnected yet distinct contexts, the conversation will turn toward the core focus of the session: the non-violent strategies Indigenous communities use to defend their land and assert their rights against pressures from governments and the local as well as the global economy.
Together with the audience we will explore where experiences resonate across continents and where strategies differ, highlighting the creativity, strength and resilience embedded in (Indigenous) Environmental Peacebuilding.
