Despite the obvious impacts of environmental and climate change on cities – and cities being important actors in climate mitigation and adaptation – the environmental peacebuilding literature has yet to engage with urbanity in a meaningful way. This is all the more surprising given the growing body of scholarly work on urban conflict and peacebuilding. In parallel, studies on urban pollution, heat islands, and green gentrification have drawn links to violence and conflict. In order to avoid perpetuating the long-held trope of "nature vs. city", environmental peacebuilding needs to better engage with urban contexts and dynamics. The Environmental Peacebuilding Association (EnPAx) is convening this collective and participatory brainstorming consultation to bring together scholars, practitioners, and decisionmakers who have been working, broadly, on urban aspects of environmental peace and conflict, and those who are interested in further developing environmental conflict and peacebuilding work in cities. The objectives of this working meeting are to (1) identify individuals and institutions interested in urban environmental peacebuilding, (2) explore ways to advance research and practice of urban environmental peacebuilding, and (3) identify potential projects, collaborative activities, and work streams to advance urban environmental peacebuilding. Depending on the interest and enthusiasm, these discussions may lead to the development of an EnPAx Interest Group focused on urban environmental peacebuilding. The consultation will be held September 26 from 10:00 - 11:30 am EDT. Here is the link to register for the event: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcufu6hpj4vG9LFpIz7d6zVHCpU1dZiNV_q
