Schoonover Center 145, Ohio University

Please join us for this Path to Ottawa event on March 26, 2026, from 3:30 to 5 pm EDT at the Schoonover Center 145 at the University of Ottawa. Attendees have a chance to win 1 of 9 books! The event is also part of the CIS Thursday Forum, a weekly series focusing on international research, scholarship and creative activity for the OHIO community. The book giveaway is made possible by the Environmental Peacebuilding Champions Program and the Environmental Peacebuilding Association.

Event Description:

In 2025, the United States started pulling out of prominent environmental treaties and international institutions. Withdrawing from the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and shuttering the U.S. Agency for International Development, among other diplomatic moves, constitute a dramatic U-turn after decades of advancing international environmental cooperation as the world's largest development donor. Join leading global environmental politics scholars for a roundtable on these unfolding policy developments and resulting research opportunities. The speakers will speak to a number of issue areas including international water conflict and cooperation, mining for renewable energy technologies, conflict from climate responses, climate negotiations, and environmental peacebuilding.

Roundtable Chair:
Geoff Dabelko, Professor at the Voinovich School of Leadership
Public Service and Affiliate Faculty with the School of International Studies and Languages

Participants:
Ken Conca, Adjunct Professor Emeritus at The School of International Service, American University
Ashok Swain, Department Head of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University
Stacy VanDeveer, Professor of Global Governance, Graduate Program Director, UMass Boston
