Environmental Peacebuilding Policy in Colombia: Why Coordination among Climate, Peace, Security, and Environmental Sectors is Essential at the National Level

Héctor Camilo Morales-Muñoz, adelphi (Colombia)

Since 2016, the project Peace with Nature has trained ex-combatants, social leaders, and conflict victims in citizen science, biodiversity conservation and ecotourism to document biodiversity and co-create products, consolidating 14 ecotourism portfolios in Colombia. These achievements show the viability of integrating participatory science, capacity building, and nature-based economies, forming a strong basis to scale the model and study its role in conservation and environmental peacebuilding in post-conflict areas and biodiversity hotspots and designing and implementing bottom-up environmental policy for the reincorporation of excombatants.
