The ‘Climate, Conflict, Corruption’ Game – Helping Communities Identify, Understand, and Protest Environmental Crimes

Ria Das, Justice.in.Every.Celsius (India)

The Climate, Conflict, Corruption Game session is an interactive, science-based workshop to simplify and communicate the complexities of climate change using a gamified methodology. Built on findings from the IPCC, participants work together to map cause-and-effect relationships between human activities, environmental systems, and climate impacts, fostering a systems-level understanding of the crisis. By connecting climate science with social, economic, and governance dimensions, the workshop encourages participants to explore how environmental challenges can both drive conflict and offer opportunities for cooperation and peacebuilding. Developed in assistance with the UNODC Grace Team. The game is an extension of the Climate Fresk Methodology. It makes use of carefully designed graphics to make multilingual play possible. The card-based workshop has been played and reflected on by various groups including youth groups, high school students and professionals across Europe and Asia, leading to helpful suggestions for revision and facilitation. This presentation will share the game’s methodology along with critical reflections about how game-based environmental conflict resolution can be used to support multi-scalar action.
