The environmental peacebuilding field recognises that inclusive and new ways of working are needed to meet today’s climate and conflict challenges. Yet in practice, national/international peace processes are increasingly dominated by transactional and zero-sum narratives. Though civil society environmental cooperation has proliferated, there are limited examples where environmental diplomacy has been linked to strategic dialogue and mediation. This workshop will bring together a diverse group of experts - including practitioners leading environmental diplomacy in South Asia at Conciliation Resources, technical experts and mediation support actors- to develop shared lessons and best practice guidance that can inform the field as a whole. Key questions that will be explored: 1. What barriers must we overcome to better link technical environmental engagement to high-level strategic peace processes? 2. How can these processes embed inclusion and support more transformative peacebuilding efforts? 3. How can environmental diplomacy be adaptive to political shocks and opportunities?
