At the start of the 21st century, most environmental peacebuilding efforts were focused on building awareness of the diverse interactions between the natural environment, peace, and conflict. Today, recognition of these links is increasingly common - requiring environmental peacebuilding advocates to turn attention from awareness-building to skill-building. This roundtable will explore best practices and strategies in capacity development for environmental peacebuilders. The session’s participatory approach, breaking down barriers between ‘audience’ and ‘experts’, will model inclusive training methods. Nominated speakers will share ideas from across the project management cycle, drawing on projects ranging from the Marianas Islands to Colombia to Rwanda. Guiding questions include: -Which skills are unique to environmental peacebuilding? Which can be ‘cross-pollinated’ between development, peacebuilding, and sustainability sectors? -How can environmental peacebuilding training initiatives build shared ground while engaging practitioners and policymakers from diverse backgrounds? -What does ‘localising’ sustained capacity development for environmental peacebuilding action look like, in practice? ************* this session is sponsored by the EnPAx Education Working Group Roundtable Members: Diego Osorio, EnPAx Education Working Group (Canada) [Chair], diego_osorio_un@outlook.com Robert Sakofski, ProPeace (Germany), robert.sakofski@propeace.de Amanda Woomer, Baobab Tree Consulting (USA), amanda@baobabtreeconsulting.com Kalåni Reyes, Main Marianas Media and Research Consulting (Northern Mariana Islands), mainmarianas@gmail.com Rafael Moser, UNEP (Brazil and Switzerland), rafael.moser@un.org Chantal Mukeshimana, We Do Green (Rwanda), mchantal055@gmail.com
