The Outward Bound Center for Peacebuilding and Outward Bound Canada offer a shared workshop on nature-based, experiential and reflective approaches to environmental peacebuilding. The workshop will consider how nature can be an entry point for fostering trust, compassion and deep human connection across divides. Elements include an introduction to Experiential Peacebuilding, Outward Bound methodologies, and a case study on real measurable impacts. Facilitators will guide participants through experiential peacebuilding practices. The workshop will close with a deeper dive into the building blocks for expedition- and nature-based learning experiences, focusing on the use of reflective practices and hands-on actions. Key themes will include how to safely take on risk, foster curiosity and how compassion is modelled in intentional communities in nature. Diverse perspectives will be reflected throughout, including feedback and testimonials from under-represented and marginalized communities in the outdoors and on human relationships with nature.
