This roundtable presents a Somali-centred analysis of climate security through three studies, offering policy and operational insights for environmental peacebuilding in climate-vulnerable and conflict-affected contexts. The session will present research conducted by UNDP Somalia, SIPRI, IOM Somalia and EIP, which, together, are informing the Government of Somalia with specific and comprehensive insights on climate-peace action across different dimensions, from institutional capacity, community ownership, and policy and programming in the climate security nexus. Research covered includes community peace agreements in Galmudug, an assessment of policy-practice gap in at the national level, and a compilation of nexus programming best practices from current and past projects that demonstrate how integrating environment, climate, peace and development, when nationally and locally led, can help institutional and community resilience and social cohesion in the long run, while also contributing to better environmental governance and improved climate adaptation.
