The Netherlands Institute of International Relations ‘Clingendael‘ is a leading think tank and academy on international affairs. Through our analyses, training and public debate we aim to inspire and equip governments, businesses, and civil society in order to contribute to a secure, sustainable and just world.
The Institute has three departments: Research, Academy and Corporate Staff. Within the Research Department we are looking for a highly motivated:
Intern Planetary Security Initiative
32- 36 hours per week
You will support the ‘Planetary Security Initiative’, a project implemented by the sustainability & climate team. The internship is for a period of six months, starting 1 July 2022.
Job description
Relevant tasks are:
- Research assistance with a specific focus on policies ongoing to reduce negative security impact of climate change and areas where this issue is most pressing (Middle-East, Sahel, Horn of Africa, and South Asia)
- Writing and editing content and news items for the website www.planetarysecurityinitiative.org
- Assistance in organising outreach on publications and events
- Developing content for social media (twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn)
- Monitoring media, social media, events and publications on the climate-security interface
Qualifications and experience
We would be interested if the following requirements are met:
- Applicants should be enrolled in a relevant Bachelor or Master degree programme (e.g. communication and culture studies, political science, international relations) and eligible to work in the Netherlands.
- Enthusiasm for and curiosity in the topics and their policy relevance,
- Excellent communicative and social skills (service minded),
- Excellent writing skills and good command of the English language,
- Capable of working independently and being well-organised,
- Team player, capable of working under pressure,
- International experience and language skills (e.g. French) are plusses,
- EER/Switzerland nationality OR holder of a Dutch study visa.
Internship compensation
Interns receive a compensation of € 450 gross per month for a full-time position.
