African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization that takes full responsibility for the rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks in partnership with governments and local communities. We currently manage 18 national parks and protected areas in 11 countries covering over 14.1 million hectares in Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Chinko's mosaic of ecosystems at such a latitude on the African continent makes this region incredibly rich and unique in biodiversity. The Chinko Conservation Area (ACC) is an important area for threatened wildlife as well as a large ecosystem with complex interactions and is the only managed protected environment in the remote eastern part of CAR.

More recently, a “functional landscape” of approximately 64,645 km2 that the CAR government has designated as a mandate for APN to develop a comprehensive conservation strategy and land use plan. It will have to be protected.

Job Overview

The Funding and Reporting Manager is responsible for the efficient and compliant delivery of the park grant portfolio, high quality reporting for internal and external purposes, and both identification and dissemination efficient park financing needs. This is a critical position that connects the strategy and operational reality of the park to funders, partners and teams at APN's head office, including fundraising. This requires coordination and close collaboration with the park manager, financial controller as well as other department heads responsible for implementing park projects, as well as a thorough understandingAfrican Parks standard operating procedures.

Main Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the park grant portfolio, overseeing the efficient and compliant execution of the respective projects. This includes working closely with the Financial Controller to ensure the correct allocation of donor funds and monitoring consumption rates, coordinating grant work plans and briefing heads of departments on key deliverables, required visibility of partners and monitoring of risks linked to the realization of the components of the grant project. **
  • Represents the park in bi-monthly AFN fundraising and fundraising teams' debriefing calls on grantmaking, key updates and risks. **
  • Coordinate and compile reports on parks, both for internal and external purposes. This includes the need to ensure that AP Reporter data is accurate and up to date, that fleet information is accurate on SIMBA as well as on the monthly and annual schedule and reports, that operational analytical reports can be made. compiled and provide timely, high-quality donor reports that bolster our reputation, in addition to developing general park factsheets for external use. **
  • Understand, monitor and map the funding needs of the park, and can effectively develop well-written documents that explain why the park needs funding for specific activities in order to enable effective fundraising. Co-writes, with the fundraising team, the park grant proposals and ensures that they are closely aligned with the business plan and the park monitoring program. **
  • In liaison with the park manager, the regional team and the AFN fundraising, communication and tourism teams, supports the management of the park's external relations. This may include coordinating donor or press visits. **
  • Coordinate or collate park-level surveys, case studies, data collection and analysis that inform impact assessments for donors and partners. **
  • Where appropriate, provide support for carbon monetization projects.
  • In parks where the main responsibilities described do not require 100% of the time of the funding and reporting managers, other secondary responsibilities may be fulfilled at the discretion of the park manager, depending on the needs of the park and the strengths and respective qualifications of the candidates. These can include, for example: **
  • Liaison for the African Parks Insurance Department to support not only internal performance improvement cycles, but also the Compliance Officer and the Head of Legal and Guarantees Services. **
  • Support the drafting of operational documents such as business plans and descriptions of special projects. **

Training and Experience:

  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience in project management or coordination roles, with a preference of five (5) years with a conservation or non-profit organization;
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, oral and written communication skills in English in French;
  • Experience in grant management, report writing and proposal writing with the EU and USAID is an advantage;
  • A graduate degree in biodiversity conservation or other related field of study is an advantage;
  • Communications experience is an advantage;
  • Strong capacity to manage time and competing priorities;
  • Strong initiative, perseverance, and resilience;
  • Willingness to live in a remote setting and with previous experience living in Africa;
  • Good team player with experience working with multicultural teams.
