With these tools we shape policy agendas, facilitate political communication, inform policy processes and support decision-makers.
Job Summary
Climate change is one of the biggest challenges for the 21st century, not least in view of the risks it entails for peace and international security. Adelphi has been working on climate-fragility risks for many years, in cooperation with the German Foreign Office and many other ministries, governments and international organizations. We are looking for creative and dynamic personalities who want to help shape political processes in this domain at the national and international level.
As a Senior Advisor, you will take responsibilities across many fields – from preparing international dialogues to developing new thematic angles on the issue. You will lead research, conceptualize and draft analyses of risks and potential solutions on climate security and climate diplomacy and support policy-makers in identifying entry points for implementing and communicating promising approaches.
Depending on your background and level of experience, you will:
- Project Management: take responsibility for planning and implementing projects and manage complex stakeholder networks and dialogues
- Conceptual design and acquisition: develop ideas, analyses and projects on how foreign, development and climate policy can and should evolve in view of climate-fragility risks, and thereby support the team in acquiring new projects
- Capacity-building: design trainings to effectively convey the available knowledge to policy-makers and practitioners from relevant sectors (foreign, development, humanitarian, security, climate policy) and implement these
- Teamwork: build on your expertise and experience in climate, foreign, security and/or development policy and act as a sparring partner for your colleagues
- Research, analysis and policy advice: develop a thorough understanding of climate security issues and become a trusted contact person for project partners and clients from across the different sectoral communities
- Communication: write reports and opinion pieces and develop communication strategies for effectively disseminating the results and insights from your projects
As a colleague in our Climate Policy team, you contribute to the strategic orientation and further development of our services; you manage and write successful proposals and participate in other business development activities; you guide and advise junior team members; and you exchange with your colleagues on a regular basis to continuously advance our team’s expertise, quality of services, and team spirit.
What we are looking for:
- Experience and interest in managing complex projects, stakeholder networks and dialogues
- A Masters’ degree that relates to the topic
- At least 8 years of relevant working experience, e.g. in international politics, climate or development policy
- Knowledge and strong interest in the fields of climate security, conflict analysis and sensitivity, and/or peace-building
- Field research experience and ability/interest in short-term travel beyond OECD countries, including fragile countries/situations
- Excellent analytical and writing skills, ability to work in teams, and inter-cultural competence
- Competent and confident presenter in international settings, solution- and client-oriented project management
- Flexibility and the ability to work independently
- Knowledge and experience in developing and running trainings
Desired:
- Excellent writing and communication skills in German and/or French
- Knowledge of / work experience on: integrating environmental/climate aspects into peace negotiations and mediation; migration/displacement and climate change; gender and social inclusion in climate and security policy; urban resilience
- Familiarity with climate change and security arenas (actors, processes and events) and contacts and networks in the global south
- Publication record targeted at policy audiences
We offer
- A varied and autonomous job and the assumption of responsible, varied tasks in a sustainable company
- An exciting, flexible and multicultural working environment and an appreciative corporate culture with flat hierarchie
- Free health-promoting sporting activities and membership of the Urban Sports Club at attractive, discounted rates
