The Natural Resource Governance Institute is an independent nonprofit organisation dedicated to improving countries' governance over their natural resources to promote sustainable and inclusive development.
The International Finance and Compliance Director is a newly created role at NRGI, and will play a critical role in ensuring that all aspects of compliance are met and applied to the highest standards. The role is part of the Support Services Team, composed of Finance, HR and IT, and who together are responsible for delivering high-quality global services to an internal client-base spread across more than 15 countries.
This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual, currently working either as a head of or director, to take their career to the next level, and ensure that NRGI is equipped to sustain its growth while remaining compliant with internal policies and procedures, donor requirements and best practice in the sector.
Key responsibilities
Working closely with the Chief Finance and Administration Officer (CFAO), you will develop and refine strategies that are critical in achieving NRGI’s 2020-2025 Strategy, and lead specifically on sections pertaining to office management, administrative support and procurement. In collaboration with other units within the wider team, you will also develop and plan for the provision of effective support services to all our offices worldwide (including logistical aspects of opening offices in new locations).
You will manage the procurement and purchasing process in a proactive and transparent manner, with the aim to add value to NRGI’s activities and have a positive impact on organisational performance. In addition, you will be responsible for improving existing procurement policies and procedures, and developing new ones where necessary to ensure alignment with legal updates and best practice.
Supporting the Chief Program Officer, you will ensure the smooth operations of NRGI’s offices around the world, tracking legal and regulatory compliance, liaising with host institutions as required, and ensuring the provision of a supportive working environment to staff.
You will also oversee risk and compliance management for delegated components of NRGI's Organisational Risk Register, ensuring that risk-mitigation strategies are implemented in a timely and efficient manner and leading on developing the appropriate frameworks.
This role might be for you if…
You have substantial experience working for international NGOs, dealing with multiple donor funds, and leading initiatives related to compliance and capacity building. You are also familiar with institutional donor requirements, have a sound awareness of local legislation and how it impacts areas of procurement, grants and contracts management.
You are strategic and savvy in your style of communication and engagement, both internally and externally, and know how to build and capitalise on your legitimacy as a subject-matter expert.
You are a natural leader: building a team’s capacity, mentoring and coaching staff members on the ground is not only something you excel at but that you also enjoy. You know how and when to delegate, are sensitive to different working styles and capacities in varied cultural environments.
Job requirements
Experience & Technical Skills Required
- At least 3-6 years post graduate experience as a procurement manager or head of procurement and a sound understanding of financial processes and reporting; ideally for an international NGO.
- Experience in contract negotiations; good legal understanding and experience in one or more of NRGI’s regional continents (Africa, Asia, and/or South America).
- Strong experience managing consulting and professional services contracts, balancing cost-effectiveness with quality service outcomes.
- Demonstrated track record of managing logistics and procurements effectively and managing compliance in a global setting.
- Familiarity with procurement and/or vendor management systems, principles and reporting.
- Excellent computer skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Excellent skills in spoken and written English are essential; other languages, especially French or Spanish are an advantage
Education & Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree: qualification in supply chain management, logistics, sourcing or procurement is beneficial
