The United Nations Assistance Mission to Somalia (UNSOM) is one of the first political missions globally to have climate and environmental language in its mandate. In order to address the links between climate change, environment and conflict and to fulfil this mandate the UN in Somalia has embarked on a range of different activities and initiatives. This article will provide a concise overview of these activities, many of them being the first of its kind and breaking new ground to address climate-security risks as part of the UN’s engagement in a conflict-affected country.
